WWW Wednesday

The usual three question meme brought to y’all by Should Be Reading.

  • What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man’s Prison by TJ Parsell, my 2nd “prison book” in a row. I don’t think this is very healthy. I read Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Woman’s Prison in three days, watched the entire thirteen-episode series in one, and then started this. And then had a realistically scary prison dream. I think I need to take a break from these.

  • What did you recently finish reading?

Like I said above, I’ve just finished Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Woman’s Prison. These people aren’t very creative with their titles. Kind of sound the same. I didn’t write up a review, I might do so later. It was fantastic. The show is even better. GO.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Great question. No clue. Maybe 1984? I haven’t decided yet. Maybe another prison book. I know, I know – I said I should stop, but I really enjoy them. We’ll see.

ANSWER THESE TOO.

WWW Wednesday July 10th

Hello friends! Once again, the weekly meme hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading! You guys know the drill – three questions, three answers. Nice, simple, update style.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon. For those of y’all who don’t know that’s the first book in the Hannibal Lecter series, the second being Silence of the Lambs. It’s my second attempt at the horror genre, the first time being last year for the 2012 Eclectic Reader’s Challenge. I’d chosen Cell by Stephen King and I was so excited because it was my first horror AND first King novel. That turned out to be a total flop – quit 100 pages in because I was bored. Well, I’m about 70% into this one and it’s going pretty well so far. Started on Friday, I’ll probably finish over the weekend.

What did you recently finish reading?

I finished Dirk Gentley’s Hollistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams on Thursday. You can find my review for it here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Well, since I’m currently reading a series I might just continue on to Silence of the Lambs. Then again, it’s supposed to be damn scary and I’m not so sure I’m ready for that. We’ll see. I was considering starting Stephen Colbert’s book but turns out it has images and fun stuff that the Kindle would ruin, so that’s plan ain’t gonna happen. We’ll see. Maybe something for the Eclectic Challenges (2103, 2012 – Attempt #2).

Yeah, that’s all. I’ll update y’all soon about some interesting stuff – Camp NaNoWriMo, Ender’s Game film news. You’ll see. I think next week’s Top Ten Tuesday is supposed to be a good one.

Answer these questions in the comments below! Go check out the Dirk Gentley review! Go check out other things! Yay!

WWW Wednesday!

Another WWW Wednesday post, brought to ya by MizB! Here’s a photo of my cat!Image

What are you currently reading?

So, I’ve slowed down a bit since Sunday. I’ve been reading the same book – Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently’s Hollistic Detective Agency – for three days now, which is my longest reading time for one book since about two weeks ago – it is CRAZY. I’m nearing the middle, I might finish it by Thursday. We’ll see. I’m having a crazy week. So far it’s okay. It’s got my oh-so-favorite Adams humor in it but I don’t find the plot very interesting – sorta the same thing that happened to be with Douglas Adams’s Starship Titanic by Terry Jones. Great Adams writing, not so great plot.

What did you recently finish reading?

I started and finished reading The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid on Saturday. I even reviewed it right here! The story wasn’t the most brilliant thing I’ve read but the writing style made up for that.

What do you think you’ll read next?

This is a good question. I might read Zombie Survival Guide next or maybe Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul cause it’s the 2nd Dirk Gently… we’ll see.

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS TOO, FOLKS.

WWW Wednseday

Haven’t done one of these in quite a while. Also, I usually take two weeks (on average) to read a book so these end up being not very interesting. However, this week’s different. I quit A Casual Vacancy on Friday and that’s honestly probably the best thing I’ve ever done because ever since I’ve been on a roll and I’m on my fourth book in six days. So here goes my first interesting WWW Wednesday (hosted by MizB)!

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford. Today I wanted to start a new book and I didn’t know what to choose. Now that I’m actually using my Kindle it feels like I have the entire world in my hands and it really is sort of true. Now, I usually plan ahead what I’m going to read but about 98% of the time I don’t follow through with it and today I thought “What about reading something from yesterday’s Summer Reads List Top Ten Tuesday post?” and so I did. I’m about halfway through. It’s nice so far.

What did you recently finish reading?

I finished Room by Emma Donoghue yesterday. It took me two days and it’s probaby one of the most depressing and yet best books I’ve ever read. I thought I’d need lots of time to process it but it turns out that I did that… while reading. It’s weird – I know. But I felt sort of whole by the time I’d finished it. I highly recommend this book. It’s very depressing though. It really affects you while you’re reading it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Hmm. I might start Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently, or maybe another John Green book. I do want to start the Hannibal Lecter series but I think I’m going to wait till I finish the first season of the Tv show for that. You know what? Maybe I’ll just read How They Met by David Levithan next. Yep. I think that’s going to be it. You guys have just seen my decision making skills in action. They aren’t very great. Oh well.

And now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for… questions! For you! Yeehaw!

What book are YOU currently reading? Which did YOU just finish? WhaddaYOU gonna choose next? Lemme know, folks!

WWW Wednesday – May 1st

First WWW Wednesday post of the month, hosted by MizB at “Should Be Reading.

What are you currently reading?

I began reading A Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling yesterday afternoon. Putting aside the slight trauma I experienced when reading… not so PG13 themes written by the person who created my childhood, I’m actually enjoying the book. It has a like a million characters that are all related and I’m so confused but the writing is very good. I am pleasantly surprised because I was worried it would turn out that JK Rowling isn’t that great… I mean, part of my love for Potter stems from the childhood connection and not the actual literature aspect. Anyway, so far so good. Only problem is the pages are extremely thick and the book is humongous.

What did you recently finish reading?

Last week I read more than I have in YEARS. I read Helene Hanff’s 84, Charing Cross Road followed by m or f? by Lisa Papademetriou and Chris Tebbetts followed by 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m not sure yet. I NEVER PLAN AHEAD GUYS, I’M SORRY. Maybe Neil Gaiman’s American Gods or 1984 by George Orwell. We’ll see. Probably something small, because Rowling is breaking my back right now.

WWW Wednesday (+ Top Ten Tuesday Failures & Announcements)

It’s Wednesday again, and I’m back with the WWW Wednesday meme, hosted by Should Be Reading.

This meme basically just includes three simple W Word questions so update y’all ’bout our reading during the week.

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

This week, unlike last one, I actually have much better answers since I am nearly done with a book for the second time this week!
